How ah ya?  (That’s my best written attempt at the truly Bostonian way I say that phrase!)

You won’t believe it:  The rain actually STOPPED.  Finally!  It’s been crazy around here.  Where we live isn’t too bad, but I am only about 20 minutes away from Rhode Island and it’s a whole different story there.  Please keep those people in your thoughts!  I can’t imagine having to be evacuated from my own home.  Yowzahs!

I have something to show you!

No, not me!  MY HAIR!  It’s finally growing!

It’s touching my SHOULDERS!

See, in July, I looked like this:

Check out how short and RED my hair was!  I actually loved it short.  As you can tell, I have a lot of hair and while I am thankful for it, it’s a lot of work.  I’ve never been – or ever will be – the get-out-of-the-shower-and-go type.  These curls need TLC every day.  As you can imagine, my hair was much easier to manage when it was short and because of this, I actually muttered the phrase (multiple times), “I’ll NEVER have long hair again.”

Never say never, my friends.

As time passed, I realized that while I loved my hair short in almost every aspect of my life, it had one major downfall.  I couldn’t put it in a ponytail while at the gym.  Considering I am such a gym rat, you can see my predicament.  The thought of my sweaty, untied hair hitting my neck is enough to creep me out to this day.  Thus, I decided to grow it.  Not to mention, when you have curly hair, you can wear it in a ponytail and look as though you’ve done something with it.  It’s a phenomenal trait, especially on rainy and/or humid days!

I haven’t CUT it (I’ve had trims) since July and I am finally starting to feel the results.  A few people at work have mentioned it too, as well as Mr. KD, so the visual effects are not just in my mind.  Isn’t it funny how all of a sudden it just seems long?  And this, my friends, is a good thing because growing it has been one of the most painful things I’ve ever done.  I’ve considered going Sinead O’Connor on you at least a dozen times due to the MANY days when it was just unruly.  (Hey – don’t knock it.  I’m fully convinced I could pull it off!)  But, I’ve made it this far and I can’t wait for it to keep growing.

Okay, enough of that.  I was just so excited that I had to share!

So, I’ve been thinking about my workouts and how I mainly lay them all out for you because I hope to inspire folks that are less than motivated by fitness to just give one a try.  I’ve only been in production a little over a month and think I’ve built a decent base for these types of people.  For the rest of you, I doubt you care how quickly I ran in such detail.  Not to mention, it is always the most boring part of the post for me to write.  So, starting today, I no longer plan to give such a detailed breakdown.  If I reach a new milestone or come across a kick-butt workout, I’ll share.  And obviously, I’ll give you my thoughts on P90 along the way.

Today, I hit the Arc Trainer for a good 45 minutes then hopped on the treadmill and walked at a quick pace on some hills for 20 minutes.  I felt great and then stretched.

The above will be my new form of workout talk.  Capeesh?

Okay, guys, are you ready for the first Amazing Grass review?

Today for breakfast, I packed up the Original Green Superfoods energy bar for lunch today with a plum (Actually, it looks like a packed an apple, but ate the plum that was supposed to be for snack time.  Apple was consumed as a snack instead!  Please forgive me.  Oops!).

First, let me show you what it looked like because I did NOT expect this and was slightly horrified to take my first bite:
But because I love you guys and told you I would review, I sucked it up and took a bite.

First, let’s talk about texture.  I LOVED the texture.  It was the softest bar I’ve ever eaten with a slight crunch from nuts and seeds.  I liked this about it a lot.  I think it’s because there is no artificial coating like on other bars, so it just kind of melted into your month if that makes sense.

Next up would be the taste, which I can best describe as “okay/good”.

Let me explain something first.  As with all my food, I had a plan with these Amazing Grass products.  I wanted to try the “Original” things first.  I figure that I will like anything that has the words “chocolate” and “peanut butter” in them better than “original”.  So, if I say the original was “good”, I have bigger expectations for the others.  AND since I have no spinach in the house to make a GM right now, I knew I wanted to start with the bars and, thus, why this one was my first choice.

So, back to the taste.  They tasted like they were healthy for you.  Period.  We’ve all had bars that claim they’re healthy for you, but none can say they have zero added sugars OR sugar substitutes OR sugar alcohols and are 100% all natural ingredients.  The bar is called SUPERFOOD after all.  So, with that in mind, I think the taste could grow on me.  It’s certainly not bad in any way, but it tastes “real”.  I guess I was living in dreamland and was picturing some sort of  luxurious & decadent bar and instead, I got a bar that was sweet, but in a natural sort of way.  It reminded me a lot of fruit leather.  Did you guys ever eat that as a kid?  My mom would sometimes buy them when they were on sale because they were better for you and all I wanted was a Fruit by the Foot.  Haha.  So, in this scenario, most bars are the Fruit by the Foot and Amazing Grass would be the fruit leather.

Because I knew the product was so good for me, it made me feel good to know I was eating it.  I’m not sure I would incorporate this into my normal routine because I wasn’t over-the-moon enough to order it online (I don’t live near a retailer).  However, if the peanut butter or chocolate flavors give me a little extra something with the taste, I may order them because I’m simply in awe of their ingredients list.

Also, one more note on the product.  It held me over until 11:30 and then my hunger came on ferociously, so the next time I have one of these for breakfast, I’ll pair it with some egg beaters for extra protein and satiety.

Stay tune for more products!  So many to go over!

The rest of the eats were pretty boring.

Lunch was a leftover chop with a drizzle of BBQ, quinoa and brussel sprouts.  I thought the sprouts were even better the second day!  LOVED them!

Am I the only one that feels hungry after using quinoa as their grain?  I love its fun texture and nutty taste, but I have noticed that it doesn’t stick to my ribs like potatoes or brown rice.  An hour after eating lunch, I was hungry.  The chop was a decent size and I ate my veggies, so not sure why I was hungry?  I tried to drink water and shake it off, but I was so hungry that I couldn’t concentrate on work.  You know what that means?  I had to eat.  My body was telling me it needed a little somethin’ somethin’, so I hopped down to the caf and got some carrots, celery and ranch that you’ve seen save my afternoon 100 times before.

Oh veggies, how I love thee!  Just a smidge of ranch goes such a long way and gives it such great flavor.  Love, love, love.

This pushed snack time out to almost 4, which is okay because Mr. KD and I don’t eat until later anyway.  I had an apple (plum pictured) and the last of my vegan cookies.

I have not talked about these cookies nearly enough.  I wasn’t sure what to expect from these because I didn’t know if I would get more peanut butter or maple syrup.  They were actually all peanut butter tasting, but the mixture of the syrup and peanut butter makes them so, so, so soft and just so delightful.  I strongly – and I mean strongly – recommend you making these now.  In fact, if Easter weren’t right around the corner and a sure bet of more treats, I would make these again tonight.  No joke.  I actually think that I might make them during P90 without the chocolate chips because they’ll then be made with all “clean” foods and I can use them as a snack.

Actually, question for you guys.  Back to finding some bars to eat pre/post workout, I can’t decide if having sugar from organic sources (organic cane juice, etc) is better than a bar with no sugar and 1M sugar alcohols, i.e. Think Thin bars.  What do you guys think?  I know that sugar alcohols don’t affect your levels like sugar does, but it just seems so unnatural.  I don’t know.  I can’t decide.

Another question – I have been SO thirsty lately and drinking the same amount of water, which is A LOT.  What could be the deal?  Literally have dry mouth.  I’m not on medication and I don’t feel sick.  I just feel like my mouth is waking up from an all-day bender at 2 pm!  It’s not even first thing in the morning!

Anyway, dinner was pretty nonchalant again tonight.  We used up the remainder of Shake N Bake for chicken and baked up some breasts.  Mr. KD was happy.  This is one of his faves.  I had a low & slow sweet potato on the side (Mr. KD had a good ol’ Idaho.  He doesn’t like sweet.  The nerve!).  Rounding out the meal was some steamed green beans.

Dusted those sweet potatoes with some cinnamon.  YUMTASTIC.

When Mr. KD tells me he doesn’t like sweet potatoes, it hurts my feelings.  I love them that much.  This is similar to his ordering method at McDonald’s.  He HOLDS the onions.  The little, baby chopped onions are the BEST part of a McDonald’s burger!  At least he eats onions now.  He didn’t when we first started dating.

Speaking of…

I received my first question on my “Ask Me Anything” page.

Q:  How long have you and Mr. KD been together?

A:  We have been together for 3.5 years.  Best years of my life.  Awwwwwww

Actually, this question was asked via comment.  Has anyone tried to click on the link in my “Ask Me Anything” page?  I think it might be working.  Someone let me know!

I guess that’s all I’ve got for you today.  Already can’t wait to chat tomorrow

Question of the Day:  What is your hidden talent?  C’mon, everyone has one!

I can clap one-handed.  I know you don’t believe me, but it’s true.  Anyone I’ve ever shown thinks it’s the funniest.thing.ever.  And, no, I don’t remember a specific moment in time when I realized I could do this.

Chicken, Couches and Chocolate!

14 03 2010

Hey, Guys!

How’s your Sunday going?  Mine is pretty good!  I ate my breakfast, took a quick shower, met my mom at church and then came home and did a couple blog related things.  Mr. KD and I finally decided to eat lunch around 1.  I couldn’t believe how long my oats held me over this morning.  I didn’t even feel hungry, but lunch was scrumptious and nutritious!

Leftover shake n bake chicken and half a potato from last night.  I then cooked up some of those frozen mixed, grilled vegetables.  These things rock!   I will definitely be buying them again on my next grocery run!  I tossed them with some salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder.

Finally getting some protein in at lunch!  Aren’t you proud of me?

Mr. KD and I are off to watch our Netflix.  We switch between movies and shows we’re getting caught up on.  Right now, we’re on the second season of Nip/Tuck.  Love it!

If you’re looking for me, I’ll be on my couch all day    And with good company.  No, I’m not talking about Mr. KD!  I’m talking about this sexy lil’ thang:

A Reeses’ peanut butter egg!!!  Holy cow! I CANNOT WAIT to devour this thing    Mr. KD bought a king size last night so he could use one on his ice cream sundae.  He told me I could have the other one last night and now I think he’s regretting that decision.  He tought I would have it last night, but I was too into my apple crisp.  He’s totally jealous that I’m going to enjoy it while watching our shows

I’ll ask two questions today since I forgot one last night, so let’s get to the first one now.

What’s your favorite Easter candy?

Mine is, hands down, Mini Cadbury eggs.  I also LOVE the Robin’s Eggs by Whoppers.  Why is it that things taste better when they’re in festive shapes?
